Belin “when cubism and surrealism converge in urban art”

I was so very happy to have the opportunity to meet and interview the fantastic street artist, Miguel Ángel Belinchón Bujes aka Belin, who I must confess is one of my favourite street artists at present!
From Spain, Belin is extremely creative and original in his artwork.
Belin is renowned for several years within the graffiti and street art world for his hyper realistic murals. A recent trip to Plaza de la Merced, in the heart of the historic centre of Malaga (and also Pablo Picasso’s birthplace), inspired Belin and then strongly changed something in his artwork technique. Belin’s work has started to adopt elements of cubism, undeniably mixing a part of surrealism and producing creative portraits in a unique style that’s completely incredible and aesthetically hallucinating. Belin entitles his unique personal style “postneocubismo”,  describing a style and technique reminiscent of the great Dali or Picasso, using spray cans though to create huge murals and illuminate everywhere he paints.
A pure genius of Urban Art ! For the last few months many of Belin’s new style artworks have moved to canvas, but he’s stayed strongly to his roots and continues to make huge murals all around the world.
I predict he’s on the way to be one of the most renowned artists in the future !
Here’s my interview with Belin . Enjoy!

Hello Belin, great to meet you. Why Belin ?
Nice to meet you too Laurent! My last name is Belinchón, so I decided to use just half of my last name and it becomes BELIN.

Where are you from?
I am from in Linares in the south of Spain “Andalucía”

How and when did you discover art and create your first artworks?
When i was a kid i used to love painting and drawing, it was a kind of a game for me. In 1995 i discovered graffiti, what a revelation in fact! Therefore from this time i started to use spray cans to give a bit of color to the streets.

Where was your first mural? Is it still available to see today?
I painted my first mural in my hometown, though it no longer exists anymore, many things have happened since that day. ahahah ….

Where can we discover your murals around the world ?
I have murals in many countries and cities, for example; Cancún, León, Monterrey, Oaxaca (México)New York, Los Angeles, Salem, Baton Rouge (USA) Gemona di Friulli, Caltanisetta, Foggia (Italy) Eindhoven, weert, Sitard (Holland) , Tel-Aviv, Netanya (Israel), Split (Croatia), Linares (Spain) , etc…

Do you paint with spray cans or do you use any other techniques?
To paint a mural I usually use spray, but in my study of art, I use any pictorial technique, oil, acrylic, watercolor, ceramic, pencil, etc.
I love Art … above all.

Did you collab with other artists ? Do you have any artists you would like to collab with in the future?
Yes, I collab with many artists: Ogre, Atom, Nichos, Tasso, Smug, Does, Koka, Mac, Musa, etc.
And I would like to collab with Daim, Nichos again, Suso33.

Where do you get your inspiration ? Any specific message in your artwork?
I get my inspiration from every single detail of life . And the more i paint, the more i get inspired 🙂
About the messages in my art, it depends on my mood. I let my imagination go completely free. So one day i can paint a committed social message and the other day i can paint just a smile or an attitude. So i might say no day is like the other, and that goes for my artwork too.

If you can describe yourself, would you say you’re a Street Artist, a Painter, an artist … or something else.
I think i’m an artist, I like to paint everywhere and I also like to do sculpture … I’m an artist in the large sense of the word.

I like to paint all around the world. So my favorite place might simply be the world. 🙂 the places where i didn’t paint yet. I should say the world and Paris 🙂 that would be great.
I love Paris, it’s one of my favorite cities, so I’d love to paint a great mural there!

Paris, that’s a great Idea . I’m sure I can find you a wall there :- )
That would be great.

Do you have any exhibitions and upcoming art fests in the future?
Yes, I will paint a large mural in Bangkok and I will have one solo show in Hong Kong, and surprises upcoming too … 🙂

Thank’s a lot . Would you like to add anything else for Streetart360 readers?
