Today let me introduce you a French street artist I particularly appreciate: Liliwenn.
A French Street Artist from Brest (An important city in Brtitanny, on the French west coast)
To define her, just one word: paradox ! Her art is only contrasts and contraries. An artistic expression at once melancholic and utopian, turbulent and serene.
In parallel to her personal work, she sometimes collaborates with street artists (Indigo, Djalouz, Bom.K, … ) , painters, musicians and film directors from different countries.
In 2009, she was spotted by a brand of street wear clothing based in Bristol, and worked with them on the launch of a limited edition clothing line that included the painting “The Little Girl”.
In 2010, her City called upon her to design a huge mural to be painted across a whole buiding.
Then, a few months later she set up the “Crimes of Minds” project, aiming to push the limits, inform and develop street art.
Project that will be finalized in 2013 by 21 murals scattered in the City of Brest (Artworks by Da Mental Vaporz, Best Ever, C215, Guy Denning, Morten Andersen, Jef Aérosol, Ben Slow, Alice Pasquini, Wen2, SLY2, Finbarr Dac, Celeste Java, TSF, Kool Koor, Pakone, Antoine Stevens).
Liliwenn is first of all a painter, working on canvas, wood, in urban environments.
Liliwenn experiments also various techniques working with acrylic resin, ink, oil paints … Her artistic work is focused on the wild nature.
Playing with the paradoxes between fragility, solidity, life, death … It’s always a return to the very fuel of life, of its cycles and permanent renewal.
Often tormented, always poetic, sometime with a touch of realism Liliwenn artwork is pure emotion.
Liliwenn took part in several street art events all around the world.
She was also invited to paint and showcase her artwork in exhibitions in UK, Germany, France, Spain …
Liliwenn likes to break frames and boundaries advocating freedom, expressing the most visceral emotions with a grain of
Poetry and dream.
